Is this a photo about a cathedral or an umbrella?
They were aligned together on an overcast drizzly day in Florence Italy. This random pairing and neutral colored background of intricate stonework was a beautiful complement to the pink backlit color of the random umbrella. The overcast sky and rainsoaked stone highlighted the pink tones of the stone– which made the umbrella just pop as an accent color.
It is important when travelling overseas to capture small things that could inspire new work either by written notes, sketchbook notes, actual color sketches or a quick photo. Digital cameras in general do a good job of capturing these momentary bursts of visual interest as reference to incorporate into future work.
It is the unexpected little things like this grey and pink sensation that I find incredibly helpful in expanding my personal color palette.
