Scouting the Wickford, RI 50th Annual Art Festival last weekend. A good show with many good artists showing including NH artist Dick Fisher and former NH, now Florida artist Jenny Gardner. A very hot muggy day, very tough for the artists–this is such a difficult business. The street-side setup is very nice for visitors though a bit tough to set up as your tent needs to step down from the sidewalk to the street. Seemed as though some sales were happening depending on who you spoke with. Some artwork a bit low quality. And some artists I spoke with a bit unclear about the value of allowing “prints/giclees” into the show. They felt it lessened the quality of the show as it had always been about showing/selling original art only. Tough times for artists no doubt. But they/we are a determined group. Enjoyed the day despite the heat. Will check into participating as an artist next year. Yeah.
